Kobalt Strengthens Music Publishing Business

February 1, 2021 - As a result of Kobalt Music Group’s sale of AWAL and Kobalt Neighbouring Rights, the company today announced it will strengthen its commitment to Kobalt’s award-winning music publishing business and AMRA.

“As Kobalt moves forward under the leadership of our CEO, Laurent (Hubert), we are both excited for the big opportunities ahead across music publishing, AMRA and Kobalt Capital,”  said Willard Ahdritz, founder and chairman of Kobalt. “Our team and capabilities will only grow stronger and play a continued role in making the industry better for creators.”

“It’s clear that, right now, musicians need more support than ever. To not only drive faster collections and payments for their great music, but to also help them find the best songwriting and networking opportunities around the world.”

Said Kobalt Music Group CEO, Laurent Hubert, “Kobalt’s mission from the start has been to create transparency and fairness for creators. I could not be more excited to focus 100% of our efforts on our incredibly successful music publishing business. Through our world-class creative and synch team’s ‘one roster, one territory’ approach combined with our global tech infrastructure, Kobalt has become the destination of choice for some of the most successful music talent in the world.”

AMRA is the first of its kind — a global digital music collection society, built on technology and trust. AMRA is designed to maximize value for its members in today's digital age, while providing the highest level of transparency and efficiency. AMRA takes a global, direct approach to digital licensing, collection and administration, all driven by Kobalt’s advanced rights management platform, KTech. This streamlined model allows AMRA to increase efficiencies, combating the large margin of uncertainty, delay, and error that exists in the current fractured system. AMRA proudly represents some of the world’s most successful songwriters through either direct affiliation with AMRA or through its publisher representation agreements for global digital licensing administration. AMRA is founded on the fundamental principle that music creators' rights come first, above all else. What's in their best interest drives every piece of our business. With flexible contracts, no complex distribution rules or opaque policies that discriminate or reward certain members, we're 100% aligned with our clients. We are here to ensure rights owners get paid more, faster.
