Kobalt Signs Grammy Award Winner Record Label, GroundUP Music

GroundUP Pens Deal with Kobalt Music Publishing Following Snarky Puppy’s Third Grammy Win

NEW YORK, NY – APRIL 27, 2017 – Kobalt, the leading independent music services company, announced a worldwide agreement today with Michael League’s GroundUP Music. The deal was signed with Kobalt Music Publishing and gives League, the leader of three-time Grammy Award winning band Snarky Puppy, a publishing platform for his bandmates including all of the outside writers of 2017s Grammy Winning “Culcha Vulcha.” Kobalt will also provide publishing for all of the GroundUP record label, whose roster includes legendary songwriter and guitar player David Crosby, multi-talented jazz/pop/folk vocalist Becca Stevens, and a plethora of other celebrated musicians.
The label was founded by League in 2012 as a home for Snarky Puppy, which grew to become a home for the music of fellow musicians and friends in addition to the host of the annual GroundUP Music festival that takes place in Miami the second weekend of February every year.
GroundUP’s President Andy Blackman Hurwitz, stated, “Michael loves Kobalt and everything Kobalt stands for. GroundUP’s desire to harness the power of music and help influence listener’s emotions and behaviors, meshes perfectly into Kobalt’s respect for craft and talent.”

Kobalt’s Executive Vice President of Business Development Merril Wasserman, commented on the new deal, “Every artist on the GroundUP label embodies exemplary talent and passion. We are excited to help Michael and Andy develop their publishing company in conjunction with the GroundUp label. We are confident that we can not only help this talented team publish their music across the globe but also help their artists realize their artistic goals.”
