Kobalt Clients Win Big with Album of the Year and Record of the Year
NEW YORK, NY – FEBRUARY 16, 2016 – Kobalt, the leading independent music services company, announced today an impressive list of GRAMMY wins among its clients across all divisions including, Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Dance Recording, Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Remixed Recording/Non-Classical and more.
Kobalt Music Publishing (KMP) clients Max Martin, Shellback (via MXM), Ryan Tedder and Noel Zancanella earned the coveted Album of the Year award for 1989 (Taylor Swift); subsequently, Max Martin, Ryan Tedder and Johan Schuster (via MXM) also took Pop Vocal Album of the Year for 1989 as well. Big winner, Max Martin also earned Best Urban Contemporary Album for Behind the Madness (The Weeknd) along with songwriters/producers Savan Kotecha (via MXM) and Peter Svensson (via MXM).
The prestigious Record of the Year went to Kobalt Neighbouring Rights (KNR) client, Bruno Mars for Uptown Funk. The same album also earned Bruno Mars Best Pop Duo/Group Performance alongside Mark Ronson as well as Best Remixed Recording/Non-Classical (Dave Audé Remix, featuring Mark Ronson). Additional KNR winners included Pitbull who won Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album for Dale (Pitbull, Lloyd “Gitsy” Willis (via Blue Mountain) & Mohombi Moupondo, Alex Cotoi, Mika Moupondo and Bruno Lopez / La Clique for "Baddest Girl in Town”), Klas Åhlund (via Lateral), writer and producer of Ghost’s “Cirice,” which was awarded best Metal Performance and Julio Reyes Copello who produced Ricky Martin’s album, A Quien Quiera Escuchar (Deluxe Edition) which won Best Latin Pop Album.
Kobalt artist, Skrillex won Best Dance Recording for Where Are Ü Now (Skrillex And Diplo with Justin Bieber) and Best Dance/Electronic Album for Skrillex And Diplo Present Jack Ü (Skrillex And Diplo).
In addition to the list of award winners, a show-stopping tribute was paid to one of Kobalt’s iconic artists and music legend, Lionel Richie (MusiCares Person of the Year, 2016). Some of the world’s favorite Richie tunes were sung, including, “Hello,” and “Brick House [Lionel Richie with the Commodores]” among others. Toward the end of the performance, Lionel Richie joined the stage to bring the mini-concert to a close with his hit song, “All Night Long.”
