Kobalt Announces Worldwide Publishing Deal with First Aid Kit
NEW YORK, LONDON AND STOCKHOLM - NOVEMBER 30, 2017 – Kobalt, an independent music services company, built for artists, songwriters, publishers and labels as an alternative to the traditional music business model, has announced that it has signed a worldwide publishing deal with Swedish folk duo, First Aid Kit, for their upcoming fourth full-length album, Ruins.
“We are super happy to be with Kobalt,” said the band’s manager, Laura Haber. “We’ve been warmly welcomed by Alison and the whole team. We can’t wait to work together on our new record, which we are very proud of. Happy to have such a great publishing company coming along for the ride!”
Alison Donald, Head of Creative, UK, at Kobalt Music, said, “We are absolutely thrilled that First Aid Kit have chosen Kobalt as their publisher. The girls have so many fans across the company and the signing was very much a global effort by our Creative team. On a personal level, I am delighted to be reunited with Klara and Johanna, having worked with them at Columbia on their seminal third album, Stay Gold. And I’m really excited about what we can achieve together with their brilliant new record.”
First Aid Kit, otherwise known as Klara and Johanna Söderberg, first gained popularity through their online content, particularly YouTube videos. In 2010, they emerged from their hometown of Stockholm, Sweden, showcasing their unique blend of folk, pop, and Americana on their first full-length album, The Big Black and the Blue. Two years later, the duo released their second album, The Lion’s Roars, which went to #1 in their home country and hit #35 in the UK. Amid a flurry of live appearances onstage and on television, Stay Gold, their third release, increased the sisters’ profile considerably and landed them the #23 spot on the US charts.
First Aid Kit’s upcoming album, Ruins, due January 19, 2018, is being produced by Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket, Laura Veirs) and features guest appearances by McKenzie Smith of Midlake, drummer Glen Kotche from Wilco, and REM's own Peter Buck.
