February 6, 2020 - Kobalt today announced a publishing deal with singer and songwriter, Jehnny Beth. This is a worldwide publishing admin deal for Jehnny Beth and her writing partner Johnny Hostile including administration, synchronization, and creative support for current catalogue and her upcoming debut solo album “To Love Is To Live” and other future works.
Kobalt SVP Business Development, Creative, Nick Robinson commented, “The opportunity to work with Jehnny Beth was a very welcome one. I've been a fan of hers since Savages completely blew me away with their track 'Husbands' in 2013, then the albums that followed and their incendiary live shows. There's no question Jehnny Beth is an iconic singer, artist and songwriter and she and Johnny have taken a huge creative step forward with this amazing upcoming album.""
Since 2011, Jehnny Beth has been the singer and co-writer in the band Savages who received Mercury Prize nominations for their two albums to date, 'Silence Yourself' (2013) and 'Adore Life' (2016). In 2017, the band went on hiatus to work on various side projects in music and the arts generally. Aside from a handful of live guest appearances with various artists including PJ Harvey, The XX and Anna Calvi, Jehnny Beth has recorded with the likes of Gorillaz and The Strokes' Julian Casablancas. With Hostile, she also recently recorded the soundtrack for 'XY Chelsea' - a documentary about Wikileaks whistleblower and activist Chelsea Manning - which was released on the duo's own Pop Noire record label, based in Paris. Aside from regularly working on a number of other film and TV soundtracks, they also host their own Beats 1 radio programme 'Start Making Sense' and have just debuted a new music TV series for Artes in France called 'Echoes with Jehnny Beth'. The new album is being released May 8th. It is preceded by the track 'I'm The Man' which was featured on the globally-acclaimed series 'Peaky Blinders'.
Jehnny Beth added, ""I am very pleased to be joining the Kobalt family for this new chapter of my work. I can’t wait to share with the world the new material I have been working on, and share that vision with Kobalt.”
