Welcoming The Kooks to the Kobalt Family
We're so excited to welcome UK pop/rock band, The Kooks, to the Kobalt family as they prepare the release of their next album. The multi-faceted worldwide label services deal offers The Kooks a full range of services including digital and physical distribution, marketing, synch licensing, and more.
Emerging as fixtures of the British, guitar-based rock movement in 2004, the Kooks’ debut record, Inside In/Inside Out, went five-times Platinum. In 2006, the band picked up mainstream momentum after winning Best UK & Ireland Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards and earning a Brit Award nomination for their single “She Moves in Her Own Way.” Two years later, their album, Konk, debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart.
Despite lineup changes, the band broke new ground in 2014, collaborating with hip-hop producer Inflo on their fourth album, Listen. Their upcoming fifth album, featuring singer and chief songwriter Luke Pritchard, guitarist Hugh Harris, bassist Peter Denton, and drummer Alexis Nunez, will be a return to their classic songwriting roots. The band also produced a compilation album entitled The Best Of… So Far this year and are currently touring in support of the record.
Paul Hitchman, President of Kobalt Music Recordings, said of the deal, “The Kooks are at the height of their powers right now and are going from strength to strength in both their live and recorded music careers. It’s especially exciting to see how their music is connecting with their audience on streaming platforms. We are very much looking forward to working with the band and their management team to maximise the global potential of their new record”
“The Kooks and all of us at Starwood Management are over the moon to be working with Kobalt, said Robert Swerdlow, of Starwood Management. “They truly understand how to help the band grow their worldwide digital streaming story and in turn take the next steps in building The Kooks' career in every aspect on an expanding global scale. It feels all very new, refreshing and very optimistic.”
So pleased to welcome the Kooks!
